From Highest First Time Voters To Biggest Victory Margin — A List Of Records Set In Lok Sabha Election 2024
Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Let us have a look at the number of records that India set during these elections.
Lok Sabha Elections 2024: The counting of votes for the Lok Sabha Election Result 2024 has been concluded now and NDA is likely to form government for the next five years. The opposition gave tough competition to the BJP and the NDA this time. Even None Of The Above (NOTA) played a significant role during this election. Madhya Pradesh's Indore broke the record for the most number of votes given to the 'None Of The Above' (NOTA) option following Congress' appeal to select the same in the Lok Sabha 2024 Elections. Indore broke the record of Bihar's Gopalganj constituency for having the highest NOTA vote.
India Creates History With Largest Voter Turnout
Not just NOTA but the overall voter turnout also made a record this time. The Election Commission of India earlier held a press conference to talk about the track record of successful conduct of elections. According to a Business Standard report, in the Lok Sabha elections 2024, around 64.2 crore people cast ballots, which is the highest turnout in any country in the world so far. This included 31 crore women and 33 crore male voters.
CEC Rajiv Kumar while talking about this, said, "We have created a world record of 642 million voters. This is 1.5 times voters of all G7 countries and 2.5 times voters of 27 countries in the EU."
Number Of First Time Voters Rises To 2.43 Lakh In Delhi
The number of first-time voters in the national capital has risen to 2.43 lakh, said the Chief Electoral Officer's office. The final electoral roll published on January 22 has shown a significant rise in the number of first-time voters in Delhi to 1.47 lakh, the statement said, as reported by news agency PTI.
The Delhi Poll body said, "The latest data reveals a remarkable increase from 1,47,074 (1.47 lakh) to approximately 2.43 lakh first-time voters enlisted in the voting list. The CEO (Chief Electoral Officer) hoped that the final figure would increase up to approximately 2.50 lakh after publication of the supplementary electoral roll."
It added, "This achievement stands as a testament to the effective implementation of voter awareness campaigns, targeting the youth demographic."
Biggest Victory Margin
According to NDTV, at least four BJP leaders have recorded the highest victory margin in the Lok Sabha polls. Shankar Lalwani from Madhya Pradesh's Indore won by a margin of over 11.72 lakh votes. This was followed by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and BJP Gujarat leader CR Patil. All of these are leading with over seven lakh votes each from their constituencies.
Highest Cash Seizure During Elections
According to a report by the Economic Times, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India, Rajiv Kumar, on Monday said that the Election Commission (EC) had seized a record Rs 10,000 crore. This prevented the age-old issue of vote buying and corruption during elections. As per Kumar, the number in 2019 was Rs 3,477 crore.
The CEC lauded the efforts of the EC in the past two years which have helped in preventing the practice of distribution of freebies. ET quoted him as saying, “You would see the distribution of freebies like liquor, dhotis, and sarees in the past, but this time we have no such major instances.”
He added that no major instance of giving away money was reported in the southern states, which used to be a common practice in previous elections.
