Lok Sabha Election 2024: More About Gaurav Gogoi

Son of former chief minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi, Gaurav filed his first nomination on March 19, 2014, from Kaliabor. He beat the BJP's Mrinal Kumar Saikia by over 93,000 votes, and won from that seat.

Gogoi led the No confidence motion against the BJP government on August 8, 2023, asking three questions to Narendra Modi. These were: "Why did he not visit Manipur to date? Why did it take almost 80 days to finally speak on Manipur and when he did speak it was just for 30 seconds? Why has the Manipur CM not been sacked so far?"

Gogoi said that the I.N.D.I.A alliance started the No confidence motion against the Modi-led government because the prime minister had decided to remain silent on the Manipur issue, and the alliance wanted him to address the Parliament on the violence in the state.

Gogoi is a B Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering, and has studied public administration from the US. He is married to Elizabeth Colebourn, and has one son and one daughter.

In the 2016 Assam Legislative Assembly Election, Topon Gogoi was elected from the Sonari constituency, but by-elections were held in 2019 because he was elected to the Lok Sabha after the general elections that year. He was succeeded by Nabanita Handique.

The 2024 General Elections were held in Assam from April 19 to May 7 in three phases.

The 14 constituencies of Assam are Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Barpeta, Darrang-Udalguri, Guwahati, Diphu, Karimganj, Silchar, Nowgong, Kaziranga, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh, and Jorhat.
