Karnataka Elections: Actor Kiccha Sudeep To Only Campaign For BJP, Not Contest Polls

Karnataka Elections: Kannada Actor Kiccha Sudeep To Not Contest Polls, Says 'Will Only Campaign For BJP'

Kannada actor Kichcha Sudeepa has said that he will not contest the Karnataka Elections for the BJP and he will only campaign for the saffron party, reported ANI.

Earlier it was reported that the actor will join the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) on Wednesday.

However, talking to the media in Bengaluru, Sudeep confirmed that he is supporting Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai and said, "I give my support to respected Bommai sir."

Reacting to this, CM Bommai said, "Sudeep doesn't belong to any political party. He has announced his support for me. His support for me also means that he is supporting the party (BJP)."

On the threat letter, Sudeep said that he will give a befitting reply to the sender and added, "Yes, I have received a threat letter and I know who sent it to me. I know it is from someone in the film industry. I will give a befitting reply to them. I will work in favour of those who stand by my side in my tough times."

Kiccha Sudeep received an alleged threat letter amid the speculation over him joining the saffron party on Tuesday. After the actor's manager received the letter, the police registered a case based on his complaint.

According to ANI, Kichcha Sudeep's manager Jack Manju got a letter from an unknown person on social media. Upon opening the message, the manager was shocked to find the letter which threatened that the actor's 'private videos' would be released.

Following this, the actor's manager gave a complaint to Puttenahalli police. The police registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. The police also started the investigation.

Karnataka will go to polls on May 10 and the voes polled will be counted on May 13.

Case Against DK Shivakumar For Distributing Cash During Poll Campaign

The police opened a case against D K Shivakumar, the president of the Karnataka Congress, for allegedly handing out cash during a campaign for a poll, reported news agency PTI. The move comes just a few days after the police registered a non-cognizable offense against Shivakumar in response to a complaint that he sprayed currency notes at the crowd from his campaign bus on March 28 at Bevinahalli village in Mandya Taluk.

The Mandya police have registered a non-cognisable offense against Karnataka Congress president DK Shivakumar for allegedly distributing cash during a campaign in the district. A video from the campaign showed Shivakumar throwing cash at the people on Tuesday, a day before Election Commission announced the schedule for the Karnataka Assembly elections.
