Jammu & Kashmir Elections Assembly Polls 2024: 11.11% Voter Turnout Recorded Till 9 AM In First Phase
Inderwal seat recorded the highest turnout at 16.01 per cent, while Anantnag recorded the lowest 6 per cent.
Jammu & Kashmir Elections Assembly Polls 2024: The first phase of the Assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday in 24 constituencies across seven districts witnessed 11.11 per cent voter turnout until 9 am, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI). The Inderwal seat in the Doda district witnessed the maximum voter turnout, with 16.01 polling before 9 am, while the lowest turnout was in the Anantnag seat where only 6 per cent of people turned up at the polling booth in the morning to exercise their democratic right.
Multi-layered security arrangements have been put in place across seven districts--Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam and Shopian in Kashmir, and Ramban, Kishtwar and Doda in Jammu division-- where polling in the first phase will decide the fate of 219 candidates.

Voting began for the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, the first time since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, as 24 constituencies spread over seven districts of the Union Territory went to polls in Phase 1 amid tight security arrangements. The last assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir were held in 2014.
Over 23 lakh voters will decide the fate of 219 candidates, including 90 Independents, who are running for 24 assembly segments in the first phase. The other two phases are scheduled to be held on September 25 and October 1, while the counting of the votes will take place on October 8.
