Is this an achievement? Who let him flee? Priyanka Gandhi on Nirav Modi's arrest

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi on Wednesday hit out at the BJP for taking credit for the arrest of bank-fraud accused Nirav Modi in London.

CHANDAULI: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Wednesday lashed out at the BJP for taking credit for the arrest of fugitive diamantaire Nirav Modi, prime accused in the Rs 13,500 crore PNB fraud case, by Scotland Yard in London. Gnadhi asked if the arrest of Modi is an achievement of the NDA government, and if it's then who let him flee to the UK. "Ye achievement hai (is this an achievement)? Jane kisne diya tha (who let him flee)?" Gandhi asked. Gandhi was speaking to the media in Uttar Pradesh's Chandauli district after meeting the family of slain soldiers Awadhesh Yadav and Vishal Pandey, who were killed in the Pulwama attack last month. Modi was arrested in London where a court remanded him in custody till March 29, saying there are "substantial grounds" to believe that he would fail to surrender if granted bail. Modi was produced before the Westminster Magistrates' Court Wednesday, where he contested his extradition to India. District Judge Marie Mallon, presiding over the hearing, said that she was not inclined to accept Modi's bail plea due the "high value amount" attached to the allegations against him and that he would have "every incentive" to evade surrendering before the court.
