Haryana State Commission For Women seeks an explanation from Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala for his comments on BJP leader Hema Malini.

After the Election Commission of India issued a show-cause notice yesterday, the Haryana State Commission For Women on Wednesday summoned Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala to appear before it on April 18, seeking an explanation in connection with the 'undignified' comments made by him against the Bharatiya Janata Party leader Hema Malini.

The row over his comments began after BJP's IT department head Amit Malviya shared a video on X in which the Congress leader can be heard purportedly making objectionable remarks against actor-politician while training guns at the saffron party.
Amit Malviya shared the video and wrote: "Congress MP Randeep Surjewala makes a vile sexist comment, that is demeaning and derogatory, not just for Hema Malini, who is an accomplished individual, but women in general."
"Who thinks of women as something to lick? That is the most disgusting description someone can come up with. Just the other day, Surjewala’s colleague was asking the ‘rate’ of another BJP woman leader, and now this. This is Rahul Gandhi’s Congress. It is misogynistic and abhors women," the BJP IT department head stated while hitting out at Congress.

The Election Commission too had issued a show-cause notice to Congress leader Randeep Surjewala for his alleged derogatory remarks against the BJP leader.
The poll body also sought a response from Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, questioning him on the steps he has taken to ensure the party leaders strictly comply with the advisories regarding upholding the dignity of women during public discourse, news agency PTI stated in its report.
Surjewala has been asked to respond by April 11 evening, and Kharge has been given time till the following evening to file their responses to the Election Commission.
