Essential Guide For First-Time Voters: Do's And Don'ts Ahead Of 2024 Lok Sabha Elections

First Time Voter: Are you a first-time voter who is worried about the process of voting? Don't worry; ABP Live has you covered. Here's an essential guide to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Voter Checklist: Every year, the Election Commission of India (ECI) updates its electoral rolls, welcoming millions of new voters aged 18 and above into the voting system. Often, these first-time voters hold significant influence in shaping the political narrative of elections, whether at the national or state level.

Media reports suggest that the Election Commission of India is poised to announce the dates for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections this week, with the general election date anticipated following its visit to Jammu and Kashmir. Follow ABP Live's 'Elections 2024' page for all the latest stories on the much-awaited general elections.

In 2019 alone, West Bengal recorded over 2 million first-time voters, while Assam prepared for its state assembly polls with approximately 1.28 million new electors commencing March 27. Tamil Nadu boasts a first-time voter count of over 1.3 million, and Kerala anticipates nearly 300,000 voters in the 18-19 age group to cast their ballots for the first time.

For the upcoming general elections, here are some important Do’s and Don’ts for young voters:

Do’s:

- Confirm your name's presence in the electoral rolls by visiting the Election Commission's website.

- Check the voting hours at your polling booth, typically from 7 am to 6 pm.

- Familiarise yourself with the candidates contesting from your constituency before voting.

- Carry an additional identification card such as Aadhar or a driving license.

- Verify the VVPAT machine's output linked to the EVM after pressing the button. Report any inconsistencies to the presiding officer.

Don’ts:

- Don't forget to bring your EPIC-voter ID card; locating your name in the electoral rolls without it can be challenging.

- Refrain from bringing your mobile phone into the EVM room.

- Avoid taking selfies while pressing the EVM button, as this action may lead to consequences.

- Do not attempt to press more than one button; exercise caution while selecting your candidate.
