Delhi Assembly: Manish Sisodia Moved To Jangpura Seat, Avadh Ojha To Make Poll Debut. AAP Releases 2nd List Of Candidates

The Aam Aadmi Party released its second list of 20 candidates for the Delhi assembly elections, including former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and renowned educator Avadh Ojha.

Delhi Assembly Polls 2025: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday released its second list of 20 candidates for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, signalling a strategic revamp in its approach to secure crucial constituencies. Former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, a three-time MLA from Patparganj, has been moved to Jangpura, while political debutant Avadh Ojha takes over the Patparganj ticket. This decision comes after internal surveys flagged Patparganj as less favourable for Sisodia, partly due to his narrow victory margin in the last election and his prolonged detention in the new liquor policy case, sources have informed ABP News.

The second list has replaced tickets for 15 sitting MLAs, with no candidate contesting from their previous constituency. Only two sitting MLAs, including Sisodia and Rakhi Bidlan, have been retained but shifted to new seats. The reshuffle also introduces new faces, aimed at revitalizing the party’s image and addressing evolving voter sentiments.

Jintender Singh Shunty and Surinder Pal Singh Bittu who recently joined the party after quitting BJP have been nominated from Shahdara and Timarpur seats respectively.

Shunty replaces AAP MLA and Speaker in the outgoing Assembly Ram Niwas Goel while Bittu has been fielded in place of Dilip Pandey, the party's chief whip in the house.

AAP has strategically fielded fresh candidates in two BJP-held seats, including Patel Nagar, where former AAP MLA Rajkumar Anand defected to the BJP. This move is part of the party’s effort to reclaim key constituencies.

Two constituencies, Krishna Nagar and Chandni Chowk, have been allocated to the sons of sitting MLAs, reflecting a calculated embrace of political lineage.

In Mustafabad, Adil Ahmad Khan replaces sitting MLA Haji Yunus, indicating a shift in strategy for this significant minority-dominated seat.

The Arvind Kejriwal-led party released its first list of candidates last month nominating 11 seats including six turncoats.

Elections to the 70-member Delhi Legislative Assembly are scheduled to be held in February next year with the Election Commission of India yet to announce the schedule.
