Priyanka Gandhi Says 'Haven't Checked Results' As Congress Stares At Hat-Trick Of Ducks In Delhi Elections

The Congress party is facing a third consecutive defeat in the Delhi Assembly Elections. The party's top leader, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, said that she has not seen the the results yet.

The Congress is staring at a hattrick of ducks in the Delhi Assembly Elections and the party's top leadership seems to be staying away from their phones and televisions. Why? Speaking on Delhi election results, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said, "I don't know [about the Delhi Election Results], I haven't checked the results yet."

The Congress drew blanks in 2015 and 2020 in Delhi. Now, it is looking at another zero in the 2025 elections.

Currently, looking at the leading seats, the Congress party is nowhere in the picture, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leading with 45 seats and the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leading with 25 seats. The majority required to claim power in Delhi stands at 36 seats, which the BJP has already crossed as they are currently leading with 45 seats, whereas the AAP is leading with 25 seats.

This is not the first time that the Indian National Congress, the oldest political party in India, is facing a complete wipeout in the Delhi elections. In the 2015 Delhi elections, the Aam Aadmi Party won 67 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party secured only 3 seats, and the Congress party failed to win any.

In the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, the AAP delivered another impressive performance, securing 62 out of 70 seats. The BJP improved its tally to 8 seats, while the Congress, which had governed Delhi from 1998 to 2013, once again failed to win any seats.

Before the elections, several exit polls predicted that the BJP would surpass the majority mark and win the elections after 27 years.

Key Contenders for the 2025 Delhi Assembly Election

The primary parties in the upcoming 2025 Delhi Assembly elections are AAP, BJP, and Congress.

  • New Delhi Constituency: Former Chief Minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal is up against BJP’s former West Delhi MP Parvesh Sahib Singh and Congress’s former MP Sandeep Dikshit.
  • Kalkaji Constituency: Incumbent Chief Minister Atishi (AAP) is contesting against BJP’s former South Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri and Congress leader Alka Lamba.
  • Malviya Nagar Constituency: AAP’s Somnath Bharti is competing with BJP’s Satish Upadhyay and Congress’s Jitendra Kumar Kochar.
  • Patparganj Constituency: With AAP veteran Manish Sisodia no longer in the fray, the party has nominated Awadh Ojha to face BJP’s Ravinder Singh Negi and Congress’s Anil Chaudhary.
