Delhi Polls: AAP’s Jitender Shunty Smears Himself With Ashes, Files Shahdara Nomination In PPE Kit

Delhi Election 2025: AAP's Jitender Shunty, a Padma Shri awardee and COVID-19 frontline worker, filed his nomination for the Shahdara seat, highlighting his relief efforts during the pandemic.

New Delhi, Jan 14 (PTI) The Aam Aadmi Party's Shahdara candidate Jitender Singh Shunty filed his nomination on Tuesday wearing a PPE kit, to highlight his relief efforts as a frontline worker during the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the pandemic, Shunty handled more than 70,000 cremations and made dedicated efforts to ease people's sufferings, earning him the sobriquets "ambulance man" and "corona warrior".

Before filing his nomination, Shunty, a Padma Shri awardee and a social activist, visited a cremation ground and smeared himself with ashes.

Addressing a rally, he expressed his commitment to the welfare of Shahdara's residents. The AAP candidate emphasised that infrastructure, healthcare, education, and employment, needed immediate attention and promised to address these concerns through active legislation and community outreach.

"We are here today to take a step forward in ensuring a brighter future for the people of Shahdara. Together, with the support of the Aam Aadmi Party, we will bring the change that this constituency deserves," Shunty said.

Raghav Chadha, who joined Shunty's rally, expressed confidence in his leadership.

"I am confident that under Jitender Shunty's leadership, Shahdara will see a transformation. His work on the ground and his connection with the people make him the ideal candidate to represent this constituency," the AAP Rajya Sabha MP stated.

The Congress has fielded Jagat Singh from Shahdara while the BJP is yet to announce its nominee for the seat.

Delhi will go to the polls on February 5 and the results will be announced on February 8.

AAP takes out 'Bin Dulhe Ki Barat' to mock BJP for not naming its Delhi CM face

New Delhi, Jan 14 (PTI) The Aam Aadmi Party took out a "wedding procession" without a groom on Tuesday as hundreds of party volunteers and leaders, including Sanjay Singh, joined it, in a dig at the BJP for not announcing its chief ministerial face for the Delhi Assembly polls.

The "Bin Dulhe Ki Barat", complete with a bedecked horse without a groom and a band party playing ceremonial music, was taken out from Todapur in the New Delhi Assembly segment, being contested by AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal. Former Delhi mayor Shelly Oberoi also took part in the procession.

With curious onlookers cheering on, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said, "This is the BJP's reality in Delhi — a groom-less wedding procession. The horse is ready, but there's no one to mount it. Delhi's voters want to know who is the leader of the party." While the AAP has alleged that the BJP was facing "bankruptcy of leadership", the saffron party responded, saying it should first reveal the name of its chief ministerial face as Kejriwal can not hold the post with a court putting restrictions on him.

AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said the BJP has been exposed in Delhi and lacks a leader to match the stature of Kejriwal.

The AAP leaders, including Chief Minister Atishi and Kejriwal, have claimed that the BJP has decided to project its leader Ramesh Bidhuri as the chief ministerial face. But Bidhuri has hit back, rejecting the claim as a "misinformation campaign" against him.
