Congress Releases List Of 34 Candidates For Arunachal Pradesh Assembly Elections 2024
Congress on Thursday announced the list of 34 candidates for the upcoming Arunachal Pradesh Assembly Elections 2024.
The Central Election Committee of Congress on Thursday released a list of thirty-four candidates for the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly Elections. As per the schedule announced by the Election Commission on March 16, the legislative elections in Arunachal Pradesh will be held on April 19 during phase one. The party announced 34 candidate names for the state's 60-member legislative assembly.
Congress fielded Sanhey Phuntsok from the Mukto (ST) assembly constituency in the north-eastern state against BJP leader and CM Pema Khandu.
Gollo Yapung Tana has been fielded against Arunachal BJP chief Biyuram Wahge from the Pakke-Kessang (ST) seat. Bayamso Kri will compete against Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein from the Chowkhan (ST) assembly constituency.
Yumlam Achung from Itanagar, Nabam Tado from Doimukh, Okam Yosung from Passighat East, and Kompu Dolo from Chayangtajo

The state is currently governed by the BJP, which holds 41 seats ruling 11 constituencies. Pema Khandu, son of former CM Pradesh Dorjee Khandu, was sworn in as the state's CM on May 29, 2019. The remaining seats are held by Congress (4), Janata Dal (United) (7), the National People's Party (5), and the People's Party of Arunachal (1). Two other seats were won by independent candidates.
Arunachal Pradesh held its 17th Legislative Assembly in 2019. Despite being a 60-member constituency, polls were conducted for only 57 as three BJP candidates were declared unopposed.
BJP declared its candidates for the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly elections on March 13. The saffron party fielded CM Pema Khandu from the Mukto (ST) assembly constituency and Deputy CM Chowna Mein from the Chowkhan (ST) seat.
Apart from this, Urban Development Minister Kamlun Mossang will fight from Miao (ST), and Public Health Engineering and Water SupplyMinister Wangki Lowang from Namsang (ST).
