Congress Reacts To PM Modi's 'Muslim League' Remark Over LS Manifesto, Says 'His Mind Still Stuck In 1925'

Earlier this week, PM Modi launched a scathing attack at the Congress, saying their Lok Sabha poll manifesto bore the imprint of the Muslim League.

New Delhi: Getting back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his claim that the Congress manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections has echoes of the views espoused by the erstwhile Muslim League, the party’s national president Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday said the former can’t think beyond divisive politics.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Kharge said, “All that PM Modi thinks about is dividing the country in the lines of religion and polarising the people. It seems he hasn’t gone over our manifesto properly. We have said we would give jobs to the youth, Rs 1 lakh to every woman annually, MSP guarantee to farmers, among other promises. Are they only for a certain community? They themselves were with the Muslim League. They should read their own history to get a better grasp of things.”

Also responding to PM Modi’s take on the Congress’s ‘Nyay Patra’, party’s national spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said, “It seems PM Modi isn’t mindful of the dignity of the position that he holds. All that we have promised is Rs 1 lakh to every woman annually. How is it about Hindus or Muslims? The fact is PM Modi is still stuck in 1925 while the country achieved independence in 1947.”

Earlier this week, PM Modi launched a scathing attack at the Congress, saying their Lok Sabha poll manifesto bore the imprint of the Muslim League.

Claiming it to be a "bundle of lies", PM Modi said the manifesto harbours intentions of splitting India. He also drew parallels between the manifesto and the ideology of the Muslim League during India's independence era.
