The BJP has consistently dominated the Lok Sabha elections in Chhattisgarh over the past four terms, winning 10 out of 11 seats in each of the three general elections from 2004 to 2014.
New Delhi: A total of 220 candidates contested the Chhattisgarh Lok Sabha elections 2024. Polling in the 11 Lok Sabha seats of the state was held in three phases - on April 19, April 26 and May 7.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has consistently dominated the Lok Sabha elections in Chhattisgarh over the past four terms, winning 10 out of 11 seats in each of the three general elections from 2004 to 2014. In the 2019 elections, the BJP secured nine seats, while the Congress won two.
In the prominent Raipur constituency, BJP's incumbent minister Brijmohan Agrawal contested against Congress' former MLA Vikas Upadhyay. In Rajnandgaon, BJP's sitting MP Santosh Pandey faced Congress MLA and former chief minister Bhupesh Baghel.
In Korba, former BJP MP Saroj Pandey was pitted against Congress' sitting parliamentarian Jyotsana Mahant, the wife of the leader of opposition Charandas Mahant. In Durg, Congress introduced a new candidate, Rajendra Sahu, to challenge the sitting BJP MP Vijay Baghel.
In the 2014 polls, the BJP won 10 out of the 11 seats while Congress bagged just one seat. In 2019, the BJP won 9 seats and Congress improved its tally by one, bagging 2 seats.
