'Can Haryana Poison Water Modi Drinks?': PM Slams Kejriwal Over 'Poisoning' Yamuna Claim, Says 'AAP-da Rattled'

PM Modi said the allegations levelled by the AAP that Haryana had intentionally "poisoned" Yamuna to disrupt the water supply of Delhi, were not only "disgusting", but an insult to the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday came down heavily at AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal over his claims that Haryana had intentionally "poisoned" Yamuna to disrupt the water supply of Delhi and to commit "mass murder" of its residents, saying that "AAP-da was rattled", fearing their defeat in the upcoming Delhi elections.

During an election rally in Delhi's Kartar Nagar, PM Modi said the allegations levelled by the AAP were not only "disgusting", but an insult to the country. He further went on to liken AAP leaders to serial killer Charles Sobhraj, who was infamous for duping people. He further blasted Kejriwal over the claim, saying that everyone in Delhi, including the PM drinks water from Yamuna, and asked, "Can Haryana BJP poison water Modi drinks?"

"A former Chief Minister of Delhi has levelled disgusting allegations on the people of Haryana. Due to fear of losing, people from AAP-da have got rattled. Are the people of Haryana different from those in Delhi? Are relatives of those living in Haryana not residing in Delhi? Can the people of Haryana poison the water their own people drink?" PM Modi said, adding that the water sent by Haryana is consumed by everyone in Delhi, "which also includes this Prime Minister."

"This is not just an insult to Haryana but to all Indians. Ours is a country where providing drinking water is considered a good deed...Such fear of losing that they are saying anything. I am sure Delhi will teach a lesson to people who say such things. Inn aapda walon ki llutiya Yamuna mein hi doobegi (These AAP-da people's ship will sink in Yamuna)," he said, asserting that "people of Delhi will never forgive AAP".

PM Modi's remarks come as the Election Commission has sought proof from Kejriwal regarding the claims made by him that Haryana sent "poisonous" water into Yamuna to disrupt the city's water supply. The former Delhi CM has been asked to submit his response by 8 PM on January 29.

Stressing how everyone drinks water from Yamuna, PM Modi questioned, "Yamuna water is consumed by judges, diplomats as well as the poor. How can one think that Haryana will poison it to kill Modi?"

The PM further asserted that the BJP would complete the pending works in the national capital from the last 11 years and also lay out a plan for the next 25 years. "There are still traffic jams, water logging and pollution in Delhi. Your one vote can relieve you of all these problems. We have to complete pending works from the last 11 years and also plan for the next 25 years. You've seen the last 25 years under Congress and AAP, now give the 'lotus' a chance," he said.

PM Modi also claimed that the people of Delhi want a double-engine government of the BJP, which will provide tap water to every household, build houses for the poor, give freedom from the "tanker mafia", and make Delhi modern. "

Today, Delhi is saying that when February 5 comes, AAP-da will go, BJP will come," he said.

"You may have heard of Charles Sobhraj. He was a known thug, but he was such an expert at duping people with innocence that every time people would get duped by him. That is why one has to remain cautious of such people," he added.

PM Modi also lauded BJP's Delhi unit for their manifesto, which consists promises and welfare schemes for not just the youth, but the women, middle class, auto drivers, slum dwellers, and the youth as well. "The BJP govt which would form after February 8, they will complete all their promises in a specific time-frame," he promised.

What Kejriwal Claimed

In a post in Hindi on X, Kejriwal had alleged that BJP-led Haryana government was mixing poison in the water and sending it to Delhi's Yamuna.

"If people in Delhi drink this water, many will die. Can anything be more disgusting than this? The poison that is being mixed in the water cannot even be cleaned in water treatment plants. For the safety of the people of Delhi, the water supply has to be stopped in many areas," he said, alleging that the BJP wants to commit a "mass murder" of Delhi residents.
