Bengal Pre-Poll Violence: BJP Stages Protest Accusing TMC Of Killing Worker In Nandigram

BJP alleged that the TMC workers attacked their workers with a sharp object on Wednesday night ahead of the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections.

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday staged a demonstration against the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal's Nandigram after the saffron party alleged that its workers were attacked by TMC members. The development comes ahead of the sixth phase of voting for the Lok Sabha elections which will take place on Saturday.

The BJP alleged that several of their workers were attacked by TMC workers last night with sharp object when the members of the saffron party were patrolling near the booth where votes will be polled on Saturday. The BJP alleged that one of their woman worker was killed in the attack while around seven people were injured, triggering the protests.

Visuals shared by news agency ANI showed arson and vandalism by the BJP workers at several places who also blocked raods in protest. Several shops were also troched by the irrate saffron party workers. Security forces were deployed to restore the law and order situation in the region who used baton force to disperse the agitated mob.

Nandigram BJP MLA and Leader of Opposition in the Bengal Legislative Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari reached Nandigram hospital where he met with the injured party workers.

BJP leader Amit Malviya held Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee responsible for the violence saying she had threatened to take revenge for her defeat in Nandigram.

"I condemn Trinamool supporters cowardly attack on BJP workers in Nandigram," said Malviya.

"Trinamool supporters attacked BJP workers with sharp weapons in the Sonachura area of Nandigram. Seven people were injured in the incident. Rathibala Arhi, a woman BJP worker, lost her life," he added.

Meanwhile, the TMC denied having any role in the violence saying it was due to infighting in the BJP that the workers are clashing with each other.

"In 2021, @BJP4India agents subverted the mandate of the people in Nandigram. Ever since then, they have indulged in one conspiracy after another to create violence and stoke tensions," said the Trinamool Congress in a post on social media platform X.
