Wayanad: On a day when Congress President Rahul Gandhi filed his nomination papers from Kerala’s Wayanad constituency, his sister and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra posted a heartfelt message, tweeting his picture on Thursday calling Gandhi her ‘truest friend’.
“My brother, my truest friend, and by far the most courageous man I know. Take care of him Wayanad, he wont let you down,” Priyanka, who is two years younger to the Congress president, said.
Earlier on Thursday, the Congress president, who is also contesting from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, filed his nomination papers from Wayanad and embarked upon a roadshow amid huge crowds thronging the streets. Priyanka Gandhi, who accompanied her brother, figured prominently in hoardings that greeted them.
The Congress president has also in the past spoken about his relation with his sister and how they shared a strong bond.
Recollecting the assassinations in the family, the Congress president had said at a function in Odisha that the killings of his grandmother Indira Gandhi and father Rajiv Gandhi and political ups and downs had led to a close bond between the siblings. “We have been through hell together. Everybody thinks all is easy for us but we have seen some very hard situations. That has brought us together.”
Putting in perspective his equation with his sister, Rahul Gandhi, who is one year older to her, said: ”If we are sitting in different rooms and you ask us the same question, 80% of the time you will get the same answer.”
