Jharkhand Elections: Hemant Soren Set To Be Next CM; Says 'Will Fulfil All The Promises Made To People'

Jharkhand CM designate Hemant Soren won both the assembly seats he contested in the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections.

New Delhi: The chief ministerial candidate of the Congress, RJD and JMM alliance Hemant Soren, who is all set to be the Chief Minister of the state for the second time dedicated the victory to the people of the state. Addressing a press conference after it became clear that the BJP has lost the elections and the alliance hit the majority mark in the 81-member Assembly, Soren said that he was thankful for the mandate given to the alliance. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha which won 30 seats, emerged as the single largest party surpassing the Bharatiya Janata Party, in an unprecedented performance. Soren won both the assembly seats he contested in the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections. He defeated Jharkhand Welfare Minister Lois Marandi in Dumka seat, securing 80,589 votes against his BJP rival's 67,571 votes of the total counted 165,033 votes. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha chief, who was first elected to the state Assembly from Dumka in 2005, had lost the seat in the 2014 assembly poll. He retained the Barhait assembly seat, defeating BJP candidate Simon Malto by over 25,000 votes. Soren got 73,534 votes and Malto got 47,939 votes. Soren thanked alliance partners for reposing faith in the JMM. "I thank Guruji (his father Shibu Soren), Lalu ji and Sonia ji, Rahul ji, Priyanka ji, and all central leaders who reposed trust on me," Soren said. He said, a new chapter has started and it will be a milestone for the state. Soren said all the promises made to the people will be fulfilled by his government. "We will sit with the alliance partners and decide the next course of action," Soren said. Congress-JMM alliance has got the majority in Jharkhand as per the latest trends, though results for all the seats have not been announced. Soren was declared a chief ministerial candidate by the Congress and the RJD in a pre-poll alliance in Jharkhand.
