UPSC website upsc.gov.in hacked! Displayed photo of Doraemon cartoon on home page

UPSC website hacked: The homepage of the website displayed the image of the popular cartoon character Doraemon.

New Delhi: Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) official website - upsc.gov.in - that is handled by the government of India was reportedly hacked late on Monday. The homepage of the website displayed the image of the popular cartoon character Doraemon along with the caption: “Doraemon!!!! Pick up the call”. With the title track of the cartoon playing in the background, a line under the picture of the cartoon read "I.M. STEWPEED". The website was, however, restored within a few hours. UPSC is the country's premium recruitment agency that is set up to conduct recruitment processes and examinations for various central government jobs. The picture of Doraemon which was displayed on the website is a popular character of Japanese Manga anime series. UPSC site was reportedly down for a few hours after the attack, before it could be restored to its original state. As of now, there is no information available about the hacker who hacked into the UPSC's website. However, soon after the hack, the people on various social media platforms were prompted share screenshots of the website, while several others tagged Prime Minister's Office, Narendra Modi and Digital India to raise a complaint. Meanwhile, this was not the first time that any government website was targetted by hackers. Earlier in April, the website of the Supreme Court of India was also hacked. The site had remained down for some time before it could be restored.
