President Murmu Stresses On Significance Of Education For Progress Of Tribal, Backward Classes

President Droupadi Murmu expressed her admiration for Gondwana University's efforts in offering education to the tribal population in the district.

Gadchiroli: President of India Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday said education plays a very important role in the development of any society, specially in changing the condition of tribals and backward classes. President was speaking during the 10th convocation ceremony at Gondwana University in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district, as reported by news agency PTI. President Murmu expressed her delight in addressing the young attendees, marking her first visit to Maharashtra since assuming office as the President of India in July of the previous year. She extended her congratulations to all the graduates and specifically commended the female students, who constituted 45 percent of the total degree recipients at Gondwana University. Recognizing the accomplishments of these female students, she regarded them as an inspiring example for other girls pursuing education.

President Droupadi Murmu expressed her admiration for Gondwana University's efforts in offering education to the tribal population in the district, as well as their initiation of skill-based courses. She shared that during her interactions with tribal communities, she became aware of their desire for quality education for their children.

President Murmu advocated for Gadchiroli to become a model district of progress in the country. She appealed to the tribal communities and backward classes not to rely solely on the government but to cultivate a personal drive to advance in life.

"The Adivasis should also make efforts to move ahead in life, working shoulder-to-shoulder with everyone," she said.

"We can learn a lot from the tribal community, how they live in love with the environment, and their art of living is wonderful. We should work towards their overall development," Murmu said.

She also appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts towards the development of aspirational districts, including many tribal-dominated ones.

Launched by the prime minister in January 2018, the aspirational district's programme aims to quickly and effectively transform some of the most under-developed districts across the country.

On the occasion, Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said an investment of Rs 20,000 crore will be made in the steel industry in Gadchiroli district.

Fadnavis pitched for more skilled-based courses in Gondwana University as per the industry requirements.

The government was working to start an airport in Gadchiroli, he said.

Gadchiroli is one of the aspirational districts in the country, he said while laying emphasis on the development of infrastructure in the district. Minister Gadkari further announced that Gadchiroli would witness the construction of a road connectivity network worth Rs 10,000 crore by the year 2024.
