Odisha: Two Students Die By Suicide Due To Examination Pressure

In Ganjam district, the body of a second-year male student from Plus II science was discovered hanging in his residence in Suryanagar.

Bhubaneswar: Two students allegedly died by suicide due to examination pressure in separate incidents in Odisha's Ganjam and Bhadrak districts, police said on Friday. The suicides occurred as the students were taking their annual Plus-II and matriculation (class 10) exams, as reported by PTI. In Ganjam district, the body of a second-year male student from Plus II science was discovered hanging in his residence in Suryanagar, Baidyanathpur area, Berhampur on Friday morning. Similarly, in Bhadrak district, a Class 10 boy was found hanging at Jahangir Sasan village.

The Plus-II boy, enrolled at Nilakantheswar Sishu Mandir in Berhampur, was reportedly caught while resorting to malpractice during the physics examination at Khallikote College on Thursday.

In another incident concerning the Class 10 student, he was residing at his maternal aunt's residence and was scheduled to write the English paper for the ongoing matriculation examination on Friday. However, his body was discovered hanging hours prior to the commencement of the English paper, as per family members.

The deceased Class 10 student hailed from Mayurbhanj district.

While people suspect that the cause of the suicide could be due to examination stress, the deceased boy’s uncle Madhabananda Mishra said: "I don’t think that he ended his life due to stress caused by examination. He had received a message from a girl, who had written that she is going to die. When his aunt asked about the message, he avoided and deleted the content from his phone".
