NEET UG 2024 Row: 2 Teachers In Maharashtra Detained For Questioning In 'Paper Leak' Case

Teachers were detained by Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad after raids at two places in Latur district. Police suspect both teachers were involved in leaking NEET UG exam papers.

NEET Paper Leak Case: The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) detained two teachers from Latur district on Saturday night for suspected involvement in the alleged NEET UG exam 2024 paper leak. The two teachers, identified as Sanjay Tukaram Jadhav and Jalil Umarkhan Pathan, who work at a government school in Latur, were detained by the ATS's Nanded unit. 

The teachers were detained after raids at two places in Latur district. Police suspect both teachers were involved in leaking NEET UG exam papers. They are now being questioned. Notably, both teachers also run private coaching classes in Latur.

In a related development, Bihar Police detained six more people from Jharkhand in connection with the alleged paper leak. Last month, Bihar's Economic Offences Unit arrested Sikandar Yadavendu, believed to be a key suspect in the case.

The NEET UG 2024 has been the centre of a massive controversy over student allegations that it was compromised. The central government has now handed over the investigation in the matter to the CBI.

Amid the raging controversy over NEET UG 2024, the NEET PG exam scheduled for Sunday was postponed by the government.

On Saturday, the central government removed Subodh Singh, Director General of the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts NEET.

"The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the following: Assignment of additional charge of the post of Director General, National Testing Agency, Ministry of Education to Shri Pradeep Singh Kharola IAS (KN:85) (Retd), Chairman and Managing Director, India Trade Promotion Organisation till appointment of a regular incumbent or until further orders, whichever is earlier," the central government said in a notice.  

The Ministry of Education has also established a seven-member committee chaired by former ISRO chief K. Radhakrishnan to assess the NTA's operations and propose reforms for exams.
