NEET UG 2024 Result: How Increased Cut-Off Will Affect Admissions? Know What Experts Said

The National Testing Agency (NTA) declared the results for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (UG) - 2024 on June 4, 2024.

The National Testing Agency released the NEET UG 2024 Result on June 4, 2024. This year, all India rank 1 is shared by 67 students and they have scored 99.997129 percentile. A total of 13,16,268 students have qualified for the NEET UG examination this year. The remarkably high cut-off and 67 students scoring a perfect 720 out of 720 marks have sparked a frenzy on X. Many are alleging paper leaks and expressing concerns about securing an MBBS seat.

According to Gaurav Tyagi, Co-Founder of Career Xpert this year's increased cut-off scores for the NEET UG test are mostly the result of increased competition and better overall performance. The increased cut-off has significant implications for educational institutions and medical facilities.

"First off, it raises the bar for admittance, which could raise the caliber of all entering students. But it also puts more pressure on applicants, which can result in stress and the chance that gifted students won't get a place," Gaurav Tyagi said.

"The NTA statistics underscore the close competition, with over 23 students vying for each place. There are 22 students—many of whom perform admirably—who do not receive a slot for every one that does. This situation highlights a crucial problem in medical education: the discrepancy between the quantity of applicants and the number of available seats," Gaurav further added.

According to Akash Sharma, Director of Admission & Outreach at Noida International University, this year's higher NEET cut-off scores will significantly impact the MBBS admissions landscape. Key effects include heightened competitiveness, increased reliance on private schools, strategic changes in student choices, and a rise in alternative medical careers. These changes emphasize the need for a comprehensive approach in medical education policies to ensure that meritocracy does not compromise accessibility and inclusivity in the healthcare sector.

"This year's hike in cut-off scores for medical college admissions has a substantial influence on both students and the educational landscape. Higher cut-off scores mean that even high-achieving students may struggle to gain admission to premier medical colleges, causing feelings of unfairness and added stress," Akash Sharma said.

"This increasing rivalry may also cause private medical colleges to boost their tuition, further stressing families' finances. It is difficult for government colleges and students to choose the rank and college for admission. Private colleges will also have problems obtaining reliable student rankings," Sharma added.
