NEET Aspirant Suicide Case: Kota Hostel Seized For No 'Anti-Suicide' Fans
The hostel's seizure came after it was found to violate safety guidelines established for the well-being of students.
Kota: Days following the tragic death of a NEET aspirant from Uttar Pradesh, who hanged himself in his hostel room, the district administration has seized the facility for its lack of 'anti-suicide devices' in ceiling fans, officials confirmed on Saturday. The 19-year-old student from Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, who lived in Kanchan Residency in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar under the Jawahar Nagar police station area, allegedly took his own life by hanging from a ceiling fan inside his hostel room on January 23, as reported by news agency PTI.
The hostel's seizure came after it was found to be in violation of safety guidelines established for the well-being of students, stated Kota district collector Dr. Ravindra Goswami in a press release on Friday evening.
An inquiry was launched by the additional district magistrate court following the alleged suicide of a student who hanged himself in his hostel room last month. Based on the inquiry report, the ADM court directed action under CrPC Section 133, leading to the seizure of Kanchan Residency hostel in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, Talwandi Kota, as stated by Goswami.
ADM Brij Mohan Bairwa said that the hostel's proprietor, Hisub Soni and caretaker Raghunandan Sharma must strictly adhere to the conditions outlined in the court order.
Kanchan Residency, comprising 32 rooms with 10 occupied by students, has been directed to relocate these students to other hostels by February 5, Goswami mentioned. The district authorities in Kota had mandated hostels to install spring devices on ceiling fans to prevent suicide attempts.
