As per the MU schedule, practical exams for repeater candidates will begin on September 15 whereas their theory exam will start from September 25. Exams for fresh candidates will take place between October 1 and 15, 2020. Exams will be conducted for an hour and for 50 marks. What are colleges tasked to do? The university has appointed colleges who are working on the modalities of conducting the final-year exams, as per the report in the Indian Express. These colleges have been asked to work on a bank of 250 questions for students and share them by the end of the week. On the basis of areas and disciplines of study, colleges have been grouped into 90 clusters where one college has been appointed as a lead for each to decide on the modalities of conducting the final-year exam, including preparation of timetable and question banks. Will the question bank be shared with students? Even as two circulars released by the University of Mumbai in the last few days mentioned the need for a comprehensive bank of multiple choice questions (MCQs) for each cluster of colleges, there was no clarity if the question bank needs to be shared with students. As per the report in the Hindustan Times, colleges are present tasked to conduct mock tests for their students to understand the new concept, but colleges say there is no mention of the need for them to share the same with students. Will the degrees offered in Covid-19 be any different? Meanwhile, it is to be noted that Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister, Uday Samant has informed that there would be no difference in the degrees that are being given to the students in the times of Covid-19 to those provided to them earlier before the pandemic. As per the media reports, there would be no separate pandemic degree certificates issued to the students by the Universities after the final year exams. They would be exactly the same as issued earlier. How are colleges planning to conduct exams? Colleges will incorporate motion-sensitive technology and tested paper setting methods to prevent cheating during the examination. MU has decided on a home-based online multiple-choice question format for the exams and has suggested the use of proctoring software to remotely invigilate one-hour papers of 50 marks each, as per Times of India report.
