Karnataka Schools To Reopen From 2021; Check List Of States, Union Territories To Resume Classes

Most states have opted for three hours of classes during the day, while in states such as Karnataka students can attend classes twice or thrice a week.

With the recent breakthrough in Covid-19 vaccination and the number of cases in India dwindling, there is a positivity with various states and union territories looking at reopening schools after a prolonged closure. Here’s What We Know So Far A look at states and union territories reopening schools : Karnataka Karnataka Education Minister S. Suresh Kumar announced on Saturday about reopening of of classes 10 and 12 from January 1. However, class 10 and 12 students will have to get written permission from their parents to join their respective schools.
Besides Class 10, 12, Vidyagama programme for standard six to nine will also open from January 1. Although, the Karnataka Technical Advisory Committee (K-TAC) suggested regular classes to open for standards nine and 11 from January 15. Schools in the state will have to comply with all the SOPs issued by the BJP government to rein the the spread of the virus that has affected one crore Indians already. Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar said that students can attend classes twice or thrice a week. “Our technical advisory committee has given a report saying Class 10 and Class 12 students can be allowed to attend schools and colleges as they will be facing public exams. The students can attend classes twice or thrice a week,” he said. According to the Union Health Ministry, there are 15,399 active COVID-19 cases in the state. So far 8,79,735 recovered and 11,989 deaths. Haryana On the other hand, government and private schools across Haryana will also re-open on Monday. Students of classes 10 and 12 will attend physical classes daily for 3 hours (10:00 am-1:00 pm), following the Covid-19 norms, the state government has informed. A circular distributed last week said, "It has been decided that students of Classes 10 and 12 will be allowed to attend their government or private schools from December 14 for three hours daily -- between 10 AM to 1 PM." Meanwhile, classes for students of 9 and 11, will begin from 21 December, it added. Tripura The northeastern state of Tripura has reopened schools for class 10th and 12th. The schools opened in line with all the set of restrictions and guidelines including installation of handwashing facilities or sanitization facilities, thermal scanning on arrival, social distancing, and use of masks, which have been made mandatory inside the school premises. Schools have also taken additional measures to reduce the student load by arranging odd-even and boys-girls alternate day present arrangements to maintain physical distance in classrooms. Madhya Pradesh As the period of board exams approaches, the Madhya Pradesh government decided to resume classroom studies for students of classes 10th and 12th from December 18. Minister of State for School Education Inder Singh Parmar said that all schools for students appearing for classes 10 and 12 will operate regularly for the entire scheduled time from December 18. Puducherry All schools will reopen in Puducherry from class 1 onwards for half a day from January 4, while full-time classes and normal school activities will begin from January 18. Announcing the government's decision, R Kamalakannan, the agriculture minister who also holds the education portfolio, noted that students, teachers, and educational institutions will have to follow Standard Operating procedures (SoPs), which has been communicated to all institutions. Jharkhand Schools outside the containment zones across Jharkhand will reopen for Class 10 and 12 from December 21. However, students will need parents' permission to attend classes. Classes will also restart in dental and medical colleges, as well as nursing schools from December 21 Bihar In its recent order, the NDA-led Bihar government has directed school authorities to reopen their senior sections and hostels starting January 4, 2021. While making the announcement, the state government also said that it will distribute free masks in every school. The government has asked to reopen senior sections from January 4 and after observation of 15 days, junior sections will be reopened if all goes well. Meanwhile, schools in Delhi and Maharashtra, two of the worst Covid-affected states have decided to keep the schools shut for now.
