Maharashtra Govt Approves 4% Quota In Promotions For Divyang Employees

In a cabinet meeting, the Maharashtra government approved 4% reservations in promotions for Divyang employees who are already in service with the state government.

In a welcoming move, the Maharashtra government on Wednesday 19, has approved a four per cent  reservation quota in promotion for Divyang (Persons with disabilities) employees serving across various departments of the Maharashtra government. The move comes following the state government’s decision to form a Divyang department to safeguard the interests and to look after the welfare of differently-abled people. Notably, the Maharashtra government formed a Divyang department in December 2022, and became the first state in the country to form a dedicated department for specially-abled people.

The decision for the reservation in promotion for Divyang people was taken at a cabinet meeting, an official statement from the Chief Minister’s office was reported as saying by news agency PTI. The cabinet meeting also reportedly decided that the ‘Open’ and ‘Backward’ categories would no longer be required to produce the non-creamy layer certificate for posts reserved for them under the Open category.

A proposal to bring down as much as 30 percent of agricultural feeders under solar energy as part of the ‘Chief Minister Solar Agriculture Feeder Scheme’ making way for uninterrupted and sustainable power supply for agriculture pumps was also approved at the meeting, PTI reported.

Notably, the move from the Maharashtra government closely follows the welfare scheme and initiatives launched by the union government for specially-abled people. Earlier in March this year, the central government also asked differently abled people to mandatorily provide  UDID numbers to avail numerous benefits under various welfare schemes launched by the government for Divyang people. The government further stated those who can not produce a UDID number can also present their UDUD Enrolment Number to avail of government schemes and benefits. Rcently, several states have also distributes thousands of UDID cards to differently-abled people to ensure them optimal welfare.
