'BJP Playing Double Game': Priyanka Gandhi Slams Yogi Govt Over Teachers Recruitment Case

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra accused the BJP of playing a 'double game' in the UP teacher recruitment, causing harm to both reserved and unreserved youth.

New Delhi: Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday criticised the BJP over the teacher recruitment case in Uttar Pradesh, accusing the party of playing a "double game" with youth from both reserved and unreserved categories, causing them social, economic, and mental harm.

“In the recruitment of 69,000 teachers in UP, the BJP’s stance against the youth and social justice is shocking. By playing a double game, both reserved and unreserved youth are being harmed socially, economically, and mentally,” Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said in a post on X.

She further alleged, “First, the reservation scam in the recruitment process took away the rights of hundreds of Dalit and backward candidates. And even now, the BJP’s intention seems to be to delay and divert the cause of social justice. This injustice must end."

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's remarks come a day after the Supreme Court stayed the Allahabad High Court's order, which had directed the Uttar Pradesh government to prepare a fresh selection list for the recruitment of 69,000 assistant teachers in the state.

The Supreme Court also put on hold the High Court's decision to cancel the selection lists issued by state authorities in June 2020 and January 2022, which included 6,800 candidates.

A bench consisting of Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and Justices J.B. Pardiwala and Manoj Misra issued notices to the state government and others, including the Secretary of the UP Basic Education Board, in response to a petition filed by Ravi Kumar Saxena and 51 others. The bench said it would conduct a final hearing on the matter and asked the involved parties to submit short written notes, not exceeding seven pages.

The court has scheduled the plea for a hearing in the week starting September 23.

Previously, the High Court had ordered the state government in August to create a new selection list for the 69,000 assistant teacher appointments. This decision came after a division bench ruled on 90 special appeals filed by Mahendra Pal and others, challenging a single-judge order from March 13 of the previous year.
