Delhi Schools To Partially Reopen For Class 10 & 12 Students From Today, Check Details

All educational institutions in Delhi have been closed since March 2020 when the first nationwide lockdown was imposed to curb the spread of COVID infections.

New Delhi: Schools to partially open for class 10 and 12 students in the national capital from today, Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) made the announcement on Sunday. According to the DDMA order, students can visit their schools for admission-related work including counseling/guidance and practical activities related to the board exams.

The Directorate of Education is going to issue guidelines regarding the partial reopening so that COVID norms can be followed to ensure the safety of children.

The DDMA has, however, specified that schools, coaching centers, and colleges will remain closed for teaching purposes.

"Students of class 10 to 12 in the city are permitted to visit their schools from August 9 (Monday) for admission-related work including counselling, guidance, and practical activities for the board exam. Health checkups and referral services situated in schools or conducted from there can resume. Children of all age may visit these centers accompanied by their parents or guardians," the DDMA order stated.

The Delhi government asked for feedback from parents, students, teachers, and principals over the decision on reopening educational institutions in the national capital, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had revealed earlier.

"Before we take any decision, I would like to ask students, parents, and teachers that should we open schools and colleges? I want your suggestions. COVID situation is under control in Delhi," he said while addressing a press conference.

"We are reviewing the suggestions from the public, some demanded reopening (of schools), some didn't. A decision is to be taken soon on the basis of all factors (vaccines for children) and feedback. Largely it seems that many people want it (schools' reopening)": news agency ANI quoted Delhi Dy CM Manish Sisodia as saying.

All educational institutions in the national capital have been closed since March 2020 when the first nationwide lockdown was imposed to curb the spread of COVID infections. The national capital has recently been witnessing a decline in the number of cases.

Recently, several states such as Punjab, Uttarakhand, Chhatisgarh, and Maharashtra have announced the reopening of schools as parents fear the loss of classroom education impacting their children's future.
