Delhi Budget 2023: Rs 16,575 Crore Allocated To Education, Push On Education Infra Revamp

Presenting the Delhi Budget 2023-24, Delhi Finance Minister Kailash Gahlot announced an allocation of 16,575 crore to the education sector besides multiple new schemes and proposals for the sector.

Delhi FInance Minister Kailash Gahlot presented the Delhi Budget 2023-24 in the legislative assembly today, March 22, 2023. In the budget, the Delhi government allotted a total of 16,575 crore as the spending on the Education sector for 2023-24.

Compared to last year's Delhi Budget education allotment of 16,278 crore, there hasn’t been a significant increase in education expenditure, with just a nominal addition of Rs 298 crore. However, the Delhi Budget 2023 underlined the AAP government’s push and commitment towards the education sector.

The Delhi Budget 2023 stressed education as one of the core areas of interests of the Delhi government. The AAP government pitched several proposals and schemes for the education sector during the budget presentation.

In a bid to revamp education infrastructure, the Delhi government has proposed to distribute new tablets among teachers, principals, deputy directors of the Delhi Education Department in 2023-24. Additionally, every government school in Delhi will be provided with 20 new computers in 2023-24, covering a total of 350 schools.

During the budget, Gahlot also announced that the Delhi government will be setting up 17 new Dr BR Ambedkar Schools of Specialised Excellence (SoSEs) in 2023-24. Presenting the budget, Gahlot further underlined that Delhi Schools would synchronize with businesses for the professional upskilling of students through ‘Schools of Applied Learning.’

He further added that the first semester in Delhi Model Virtual School and the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Armed Forces Preparatory School have already begun.

Notably, this is the first time that Kailash Gahlot was presenting the Delhi Budget after Manish Sisodia’s resignation following his detention over his connection with the Delhi Excise Policy Scam.

“I would have been happier if Manish Sisodia had presented the budget. He is my elder brother. I am sure the best wishes of children all over the world are with Manish Sisodia. This is the ninth budget of the Delhi government and the first budget for me,” Gahlot said while presenting the Delhi Budget 2023-24.
