CUET To Be Based On 12th Syllabus, Will Not Make Board Exams Irrelevant: UGC Chief

University Grants Commission Chairman Jagadesh Kumar said Tuesday that the National Testing Agency (NTA) will consider conducting the Common Entrance Test (CUET) twice a year from 2023.

New Delhi: University Grants Commission Chairman Jagadesh Kumar said Tuesday that the Common Entrance Test (CUET) will be completely based on the 12th standard syllabus, and that no questions will be asked from the 11th standard course.

He also said that CUET will not make board exams irrelevant, news agency the PTI reported.

The UGC Chief said that CUET will not give push to the 'coaching culture'.

He also said that the National Testing Agency (NTA) will consider conducting the Common Entrance Test (CUET) twice a year from 2023.

Kumar added that students from state boards will not be at disadvantage, and that the examination will give a level playing field to all students.

Kumar further said that top private universities are interested in using CUET for admitting students in undergraduate courses.

Last week, the UGC Chairman said that state, private, and deemed universities will use CUET scores for admission to undergraduate programmes.

He further said that with CUET in place, there will be no need for students to write multiple exams for admission in UG programmes, news agency ANI reported.

He claimed that with CUET in place, students do not have to worry about achieving sky-high results in the 12th standard and do not have to write several tests.
