Covid Surge: J&K Administration Orders Closure Of Schools, Colleges And Universities Till May 15

All schools in Jammu and Kashmir shall continue to remain closed for imparting on-campus/in-person education to the students till May 15, said the order issued by the office of Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

Srinagar: Taking note of the alarming surge in Covid-19 cases, the Jammu and Kashmir administration on Sunday issued an order to extend the closure of schools, colleges and universities till May 15.

All schools in Jammu and Kashmir shall continue to remain closed for imparting on-campus/in-person education to the students till May 15, said the order issued by the office of Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

The order added that all universities and colleges in Jammu and Kashmir shall remain closed for imparting on-campus/in-person education to the students till 15 May except for courses/programs that require physical presence of the students on account of laboratory/research/thesis work and internship etc.

Besides, the order also said the ceiling on the number of people permitted to attend gatherings/functions shall be 20 in case of funerals, 50 for all kinds of gatherings at indoor venues and 100 for all kinds of gatherings at outdoor venues.

This comes as Covid-19 cases continue to rise in Jammu and Kashmir, with over 1,000 fresh cases reported on Saturday.

Meanwhile, India’s daily new cases continue to rise. According to the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry, 2,61,500 new cases were registered in the last 24 hours.

Ten states, including Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan, report 78.56% of the new cases.
