99th DU Convocation 2023: President Murmu To Be Chief Guest, 1.5 Lakh Degrees To Be Awarded

The 99t DU Convocation will be held on February 25, 2023. President Droupadi Murmu will be the chief guest at the event, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to be guest of honour.

The Delhi University is all set to hold its 99th Convocation on February 25. Hon'ble President Droupadi Murmu will be the chief guest at the convocation. The 99th DU Convocation will witness around 1.5 lakh degrees being distributed among graduating students, as per a University official. 

“The university will hold its 99th convocation on February 25, according to an official notification. This year, the highest number of PhD degrees will be handed over,” Dean of Examination DS Rawat was reported saying by PTI. 

The University released an official notification earlier, announcing its 99th Convocation. “It is notified for information to all concerned that the 99th Annual Convocation of University of Delhi is scheduled to be held on Saturday, 25th February, 2023 from 09.30 a.m. onwards at Multipurpose Hall, Delhi University Sports Stadium Complex, University of Delhi, Delhi-110007.” read the official notification.

"President Droupadi Murmu will be the chief guest at the convocation where 1,57,426 students will receive their degrees. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will be the guest of honour. The varsity will award 81,972 degrees in undergraduate, postgraduate, law and medical courses. Another 75,454 graduate and postgraduate students of the School of Open Learning will also receive their degrees,” Rawat was quoted as saying by PTI. 

"Over 840 degrees will be handed over to PhD students. This is the highest number so far. The number is going to rise further. Last year, we handed over 802 degrees. The convocation ceremony will begin at the Multipurpose Hall of Delhi University Sports Stadium Complex at 9.30 am, according to the notification.” Rawat was further quoted saying. 

Another university official further stated that the event this year will be different from previous years. Students in the 99th DU Convocation will be seen in Indian ‘angvastras’ (stole) instead of the ‘old colonial gowns.’
