Postpone NEET PG 2023 By 2-3 Months: IMA Asks Union Health Minister

In its letter to the Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, the IMA has asked to postpone the NEET PG 2023 Exam since it overlaps with internship completion cut-off in many parts of the country.

In a letter to the Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has asked to postpone the NEET PG 2023 Exam by 2-3 months. As per the present schedule, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test is scheduled to be held on March 5, 2023.

In its letter to the Union Minister, the IMA cited that a lot of medical aspirants are yet to complete their one-year mandatory internships, as per the local internship schedules. These interning candidates will be devoid of their proper postgraduate education since the NEET PG 2023 MBBS internship completion cut-off date overlaps with internship completion dates in several ports of the country.

The NBE further stated that with the NEET PG 2023 Exam scheduled to be conducted on March 5, the mandatory internship completion won’t even provide enough time to medical aspirants to prepare for the premier medical entrance exam.

Notably, after the announcement of the NEET PG 2023 Exam Schedule, several medical bodies and students from across the country have been demanding to postpone the NEET PG 2023 Exam and extend the MBBS internship completion date. In the wake of several requests from all parts of the country, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare extended the MBBS internship completion cut-off date to August 11, 2023.

“As requested by IMA Headquarters the issue of eligibility criteria for NEET PG 2023 was resolved by extending the date of completion of internship. But this also needs to synchronize with the actual examination date, which shall be convened after completion of internship,” the IMA added in its letter.

“While we are entrusted with the task to bring uniformity and standardization in postgraduate examinations conducted in India, we must safeguard these basic objectives while framing the schedule for NEET PG,” the IMA added further.
