Nirmala Sitharaman Slams Arvind Kejriwal For 'Silence' On Swati Maliwal Assault Case

Swati Maliwal Assault Case: Nirmala Sitharaman said that Kejriwal should speak up and apologise for the incident involving his party's MP.

Swati Maliwal Assault Case: Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday lashed out at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Swati Maliwal assault case, and questioned his silence over the alleged incident. She said that the AAP chief should speak up and apologise for the incident involving his party's MP.

The BJP leader said that it is unbelievable and unacceptable that the AAP chief has not spoken a word on the attack on his party MP Maliwal. She also said that Kejriwal is 'shamelessly' moving around with accused Bibhav Kumar after his party promised action in the case.

Continuing her attack on the Delhi CM, Sitharaman raised concern over safety of women in the national capital and said, "The women in Delhi are asking - can this CM (Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal) even provide security to the women in the city? Arvind Kejriwal is responsible for this incident."

The BJP leader claimed that former DCW chief Maliwal did not register a complaints due to pressure on her from the high-level. "The fact that Swati Maliwal did not register a complaint in Police for 3-4 days (after the incident) means that there was pressure on her from high-level. There is reason to believe that there was enough pressure on her and probably continues on her," Sitharaman said.

On Monday, Maliwal went to the Civil Lines police station and alleged that a member of the Delhi chief minister's personal staff "assaulted" her at the chief minister's official residence, police officials had said. Meanwhile, the AAP MP moved Delhi's Tis Hazari court to record her statement in the case.
