SC Issues Notice To ED, Seeks Reply On Sanjay Singh's Plea Challenging HC Order Against His Arrest
The Supreme Court has sent a notice to the ED over AAP MP Sanjay Singh's plea against Delhi HC order which had rejected petition challenging his arrest.
The Supreme Court has issued notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) seeking its reply on AAP MP Sanjay Singh's plea against his arrest in the Delhi liquor policy case, reported news agency PTI. Singh had challenged the Delhi High Court order which had dismissed his plea challenging his remand and arrest in the alleged liquor irregularities case. Now, the apex court has asked the federal agency to file a reply over Singh's plea.
Last month, the Delhi High Court dismissed Sanjay Singh's plea challenging his remand and arrest in the liquor 'scam' case. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma denied his plea finding "no ground" was shown to award him relief. Singh, who was detained by the ED on October 4, filed a high court petition challenging his detention and remand in a money laundering case involving suspected errors in Delhi's excise policy for 2021-22.
Earlier, a trial Court sentenced Sanjay Singh to judicial custody until October 27, 2023.
The case has been taking the party on edge after ED and CBI arrested former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in the same case and his bail plea was rejected by the top court, after being dismissed by the lower and HC.
According to the ED, Singh and his associates were involved in the Delhi government's decision to grant licences to alcohol shops and merchants in 2020, resulting in losses to the state exchequer and violations of anti-corruption legislation.
Earlier this month, Singh, indirectly targeting the Centre, said, “There is a big conspiracy to entrap Kejriwal. Not just the arrest, they are going to do something worse with Kejriwal. They will execute something bigger.” He made the remark while he was being brought to the court.
Meanwhile, the Delhi court extended the judicial custody of Sanjay Singh till November 24.
