Relief From Scorching Heat As Fresh Spell Of Rain Makes Weather Pleasant In Delhi

Fresh showers in the national capital has further brought down the mercury in Delhi making the city cooler and bringing relief from days of scorching heat.

Delhi received a fresh spell of rain on Monday afternoon making the weather pleasant and giving relief to the residents from days of scorching heat. Earlier in the day, Delhiites woke up to a rainy morning and showers brought down the rising temperature in the national capital. The city braved a temperature of 38.6 degrees Celsius on Sunday and the minimum temperature settled at 28.6 degrees Celsius which is a notch above the season's average, reported news agency PTI. The relative humidity oscillated between 54 per cent and 75 per cent. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its Sunday bulletin predicted mostly cloudy skies with light rain for June 19. 

IMD has predicted today's maximum and minimum temperature to hover around 39 and 27 degrees Celsius.  

On Friday, the national capital received a fresh spell of rain under the influence of Cyclone Biparjoy and a western disturbance active over the northwest Himalayan region. It ended at 8:30 am on Saturday and in those 24 hours, Delhi recorded 7 mm rainfall. 

Delhi's relative humidity at 8:30 am on Sunday was 50 per cent. At the same time, Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded in the moderate (128) category at 9 am, according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR). 

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered "good", 51 and 100 "satisfactory", 101 and 200 "moderate", 201 and 300 "poor", 301 and 400 "very poor", and 401 and 500 "severe". 

Meanwhile, an orange alert has been issued in some districts of Eastern Uttar Pradesh in view of the persisting heatwave. 

"Heatwave conditions will prevail in a few districts of Eastern UP, for which an Orange alert has been issued. After that, temperature will start falling, bringing relief to the people," says Lucknow Meteorological Centre scientist Mohammad Danish on heatwave conditions in UP, as quoted by ANI.
