Prison Dept, Police Fix Up Meeting To Arrange Security For Mann's First Visit To Kejriwal In Tihar

As per the guidelines of the prison, an inmate is permitted to meet visitors either in person or via video conference twice weekly.

New Delhi: The Prison Department in Delhi has fixed an advance Security Liaison meeting with Additional Director General (Police), Punjab, Delhi Police and Tihar Jail administration in the office of Deputy Inspector General (Prisons) at Tihar prison headquarters Delhi on April 12, for making security arrangements and complete the formalities as mandated in Delhi Prison Rules, to arrange a meeting of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann with his Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal, news agency ANI reported.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) took Arvind Kejriwal into custody on March 21 after the high court refused to provide him protection from coercive measures by the federal anti-money laundering agency, according to PTI. The case pertains to allegations of corruption and money laundering linked to the implementation of the excise policy of the Delhi government for the fiscal year 2021-22, which was subsequently scrapped.

CM Arvind Kejriwal was placed under judicial custody on April 1 following the conclusion of his detention by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Despite Kejriwal's appeal contesting his arrest in the money laundering case arising from the excise case, the Delhi High Court dismissed it on Tuesday, asserting no violation of legal statutes.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Kejriwal had a face-to-face meeting with his wife Sunita Kejriwal and personal secretary Bibhav Kumar inside Tihar Jail. It marked his first in-person meeting with them since being placed in the judicial custody on April 1.

As per the guidelines of the prison, an inmate is permitted to meet visitors either in person or via video conference twice weekly. However, the inmate must provide the names of such visitors beforehand.

"His wife Sunita Kejriwal and his personal secretary Bibhav Kumar met him at 'mulakat jangla' of Tihar jail on Tuesday afternoon. The jail administration allowed them to meet for half an hour," PTI quoted one of its sources as saying.
