MCD Results 2022: Meet AAP's Bobi Kinnar, Delhi's First Transgender Councillor

MCD Election Results: AAP's Bobi Kinnar wins from Delhi's Sultanpuri-A ward, becoming Delhi's first transgender councillor.

MCD Election Results: The names of winners have started coming out for the Delhi MCD polls with both BJP and AAP giving a tough fight to each other.

Aam Aadmi Party’s Bobi Kinnar won from Delhi’s Sultanpuri-A ward by defeating Congress candidate Varuna Dhaka by 6714 votes.

Bobi secured 14821 votes while Dhaka managed to get 8107 votes. Bobi is a transgender and her win significantly depicts the change in the societal mindset. She had earlier contested the civic body polls in 2017 as an independent candidate.

Reacting to her victory, Bobi said, "I want to dedicate my victory to the people who worked so hard for me. I would like to thank everyone. Now I just have to work for development in my area."

It was the first time when any party gave a ticket to a transgender. Bobi is the president of the Delhi unit of 'Hindu Yuva Samaj Ekta Awam Anti-Terrorism Committee. She has been associated with the organisation for the last 15 years.

She has been an active social worker majorly working for transgenders’ empowerment.

Bobby Kinnar, who left a mark through social work in the ward, was found at the top of the survey and was declared a candidate for the municipal elections. Bobby contested the Municipal Corporation elections in the year 2017 as an independent candidate.

Talking to a media outlet before the elections, she had said, "If I become a councillor, I will work to end corruption. I will not allow officials to take bribes and will get public works done for free."

Reactions To Results

Party leaders have started reacting to the outcomes of the MCD elections.

Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta said that the people of Delhi will take revenge from Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for his corruption and betrayal.

"People of Delhi will take revenge for the manner in which Delhi CM indulged in corruption and betrayed them. I trust the people of Delhi. We raised issues, exposed AAP's corruption and revealed their failures. We're going to come to power in MCD, for the 4th time," he said.

The Bharatiya Janata Party said that it worked on cleaning the garbage in Delhi and continued doing so during the pandemic and that is why it is confident that the next mayor will be from BJP.

"We worked for the disposal of garbage & it continued even during Corona. BJP has worked. That's why we're confident that the next Mayor will be from BJP. Last time too, surveys gave only 50 seats to BJP but we won 2/3rd majority," said Delhi BJP leader Harish Khurana.

Earlier in the morning, AAP said, "We are going to get more than 180 seats. If voters favour us, we can also cross 230 seats. Mayor will be from our party. I think exit polls are pointing towards the victory of the Aam Aadmi Party."
