As per the India Meteorological Department update, Delhi NCR is likely to receive light to moderate rainfall on Wednesday morning.

The much awaited respite from the punishing heatwave in Delhi and the NCR region is likely to arrive today as the India Meteorological Department has predicted light shower in the national capital. As per the India Meteorological Department update at around 7 am on Wednesday, Delhi-NCR is likely to receive light to moderate rainfall in the next two hours.

"Light to moderate intensity rain and gusty winds with speed of 30-50 Km/h would occur over and adjoining areas of many places of Delhi, NCR ( Loni Dehat, Hindon AF Station, Bahadurgarh, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Noida, Dadri, Greater Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, Manesar, Ballabhgarh) Sonipat, Kharkhoda, Mattanhail, Jhajjar, Farukhnagar, Sohana, Palwal (Haryana) Baraut, Bagpat, Meerut, Khekra, Modinagar, Kithor, Pilakhua, Hapur, Gulaoti, Sikandrabad, Bulandshahar (U.P.) during next 2 hours," stated the IMD update.

The prediction comes as a sigh of relief as the national capital recorded its warmest night in at least 14 years, with the minimum temperature settling more than eight notches above normal at 35.2 degrees Celsius.

Since May 12, temperatures in the city have remained above 40 degrees Celsius with a total of 16 days when the mercury breached the 45-degree Celsius mark.

As per the weather department, a fresh western disturbance is expected to bring the relief in the city.

The severe heatwave has caused a spike in heatstroke related casualties in Delhi while the hospitals are witnessing an uptick in the number of patients.

The heatwave also pushed peak power demand of Delhi to an all-time high level of 8,656 MW on Wednesday afternoon, said discom officials, as per a PTI report.
