Delhi: Fire Breaks Out In Ghazipur Landfill Site
A Delhi Fire Service (DFS) official said that the call regarding the blaze was received at 5.22 pm and two fire tenders have been rushed to the site.
A major fire broke out at the Ghazipur landfill site on Sunday evening, the Delhi Fire Service said.
A Delhi Fire Service (DFS) official said that the call regarding the blaze was received at 5.22 pm and two fire tenders have been rushed to the site.
"We received a call regarding the fire at 5:22 pm. Two fire tenders were pressed into service. Efforts are being made to douse the fire. Local police have been informed," a Delhi Fire Services (DFS) official said.
A senior Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) official said that the excavators were pressed into service to control the fire.
This isn't the first time that the landfill site had witnessed fire in recent years.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had promised to clear this landfill site by December 31 last year, before the 2022 MCD elections.
Three incidents of fire were reported at the landfill in 2022, including one on March 28 which was doused after over 50 hours, as per PTI.
The BJP hit out at the Delhi government, alleging that it had promised to clear the Ghazipur landfill site by last year but did not keep its word.
Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said that as a result of the fire at the landfill site, smoke has engulfed the entire area, causing inconvenience to residents and businesses.
Fire In Janpath Building
Another case of fire was reported in an under construction building near Janpath roundabout in New Delhi.
The fire broke out in the waste of the the building, however, no one was hurt in the incident.

"We got multiple calls regarding fire in an building. We sent six fire vehicles to the spot and later discovered that the fire broke out in a waste material. Our teams controlled the fire," an official of the Delhi Fire Service said.
