Downpour Continues In Mumbai, Heavy Rain In Delhi Day After Monsoon Hit Both Cities On Same Day

The southwest monsoon spanned from Delhi to Mumbai on the same day for the first time since June 21, 1961, the IMD said Sunday. 

Delhi woke up to pleasant weather as rain lashed the national capital on Tuesday. The monsoon arrived in the national capital on Sunday, two days before its scheduled onset, bringing respite to Delhiites from scorching heat. The India Meteorological Department issued a “yellow” alert for Tuesday and cloudy skies with moderate rain or thundershowers are likely to remain in the national capital. The southwest monsoon spanned from Delhi to Mumbai on the same day for the first time since June 21, 1961, the IMD said Sunday. 

While the monsoon hit the national capital two days early, it arrived in the national capital two weeks late, it said.  

On Tuesday, Mumbai also woke up to a rainy morning. Visuals shared by news agency ANI show showers lashing the western express highway.

On Monday also, the national capital witnesses muggy weather conditions keeping the mercury in check. Clouds covered the Delhi skies throughout the day with Safdarjung observatory recording a high of 33.2 degrees Celsius, four notches below the season's average, the weather office said.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 25.4 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal while humidity levels fluctuated between 98 per cent and 69 per cent, reported PTI.

The Safdarjung observatory did not receive any rainfall between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm on Monday. However, Palam observatory received 1.4 mm, Ayanagar 0.6 mm, CDO Ghaziabad 0.5 mm, and Najafgarh 2 mm of precipitation during this period.

Waterlogging was reported from some locations in Rohini and Narela zones, while a tree uprooting incident was reported from Lajpat Nagar in Central Zone, civic officials said, as per the report.
