Delhi Likely To Witness Rain, Thunderstorm Today As Capital Sizzles At 39.2 Deg Celsius Temp

The IMD has predicted thunderstorms and rainfall in Delhi today after the maximum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 39.2 degrees Celsius the previous day.

The weather office has predicted a thunderstorm with rains to lash Delhi on Sunday after the national capital sizzled at 39.2 degrees Celsius the previous day, a normal temperature for this season as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The minimum temperature in the city settled at 27.6 degrees Celsius. The Air Quality Index at 6 pm stood at 121 pm which falls within the 'moderate' category, as per the Central Pollution Control Board. 

On Friday, the national capital received a fresh spell of rain under the influence of Cyclone Biparjoy and a western disturbance active over the northwest Himalayan region. It ended at 8:30 am on Saturday and in those 24 hours, Delhi recorded 7 mm rainfall. The humidity in the areas here oscillated between 51 per cent and 71 per cent, reported news agency PTI.

Light Rain Likely To Break Delhi's Dry Spell Today, Bring Relief From Searing Heat

After observing intense heat for the last few days, Delhi witnessed cloudy skies and light rain at several places on Friday. The weather activity is likely to continue till June 20, according to the weather department. The day temperature in the city hovered around 37.7 degrees Celsius, which was one degree below average for the month. The minimum temperature was recorded at 27.9 degrees Celsius. Delhi would witness a generally cloudy sky with light rain or drizzle the day, said the IMD in its weather bulletin, as per PTI.

The moist winds from Cyclone Biparjoy will continue to blow in the city until Saturday.

Delhi's relative humidity at 8:30 am was 50 per cent. At the same time, Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded in the moderate (128) category at 9 am, according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR).

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered "good", 51 and 100 "satisfactory", 101 and 200 "moderate", 201 and 300 "poor", 301 and 400 "very poor", and 401 and 500 "severe".
