Delhi Weather Update: IMD Predicts Rain And Below Normal Temperature For Next 3 Days In National Capital
May is the hottest month in Delhi, however, below-normal maximum temperatures and fewer heatwave days are expected in northwest India in May.
The national capital is likely to witness light rain and thundershowers on Wednesday with maximum temperature expected to settle around 28 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The Safdarjung Observatory (Base observatory) in Delhi has been observing day temperature settle at least 10 degrees below normal for the last three days due to a Western Disturbance induced rain and cloudy weather.
The maximum temperature settled at 28.7 degrees Celsius on Sunday and dropped to 26.2 degrees Celsius on Monday, making it the second coldest day in the month in 13 years. While on Tuesday, the city recorded a maximum of 28.3 degrees Celsius.
As per PTI, an IMD official has stated that another western disturbance is likely to affect northwest India starting May 5. Under its influence, cloudy skies and sporadic rain is predicted in the capital until May 7.
Western Disturbance in the hills of north India led to weather activity across the country.
"A Western Disturbance as a cyclonic circulation lies over Haryana & neighbourhood in lower to upper tropospheric levels. Another Western Disturbance as a cyclonic circulation lies over south Pakistan in middle tropospheric levels. An Induced Cyclonic Circulation lies over northwest Rajasthan at lower tropospheric levels. A trough/wind discontinuity runs from west Vidarbha to South Interior Karnataka in lower tropospheric levels," said IMD in its weather bulletin on Tuesday.
The maximum temperature is predicted to remain below 35 degrees Celsius until May 9.
According to the weather department, May is the hottest month in Delhi with a mean maximum temperature of 39.5 degrees Celsius. However, below-normal maximum temperatures and fewer heatwave days are predicted in northwest India in May.
The maximum temperatures on Tuesday hovered below normal limits in Haryana and Punjab after rains lashed many parts of the states, the MeT office said. Places like Chandigarh, Ambala, Jhajjar, Kurukshetra, Panchkula, Amritsar, Pathankot, Mohali, Ludhiana and Patiala witnessed rains, it said.
