Light Rain Likely To Break Delhi's Dry Spell Today, Bring Relief From Searing Heat

Due to rain in Delhi, the maximum temperature will drop to hover around 38 degrees Celsius, said the weather department.

After observing intense heat for the last few days, Delhi will witness cludy skies and light rain at several places on Friday. The weather activity is likely to continue till june 20, according to the weather department. The day temperature in the city is likely to hover around 37.7 degrees Celsius, whihc is one degree below average for the month. The minimum temperature was recorded at 27.9 degrees Celsius. Delhi would witness a generally cloudy sky with light rain or drizzle during the day, said the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in its weather bulletin.

The moist winds originating from Cyclone Biparjoy will continue to blow in the city at least till Saturday.

Delhi relative humidity at 8:30 am was 50 per cent, while Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded in the moderate (128) category at 9 am, according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR).

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered "good", 51 and 100 "satisfactory", 101 and 200 "moderate", 201 and 300 "poor", 301 and 400 "very poor", and 401 and 500 "severe".

Cyclone Biparjoy Destruction

Meanwhile, Cyclone Biparjoy, which made landfall in Kutch on Thursday evening has caused large scale destruction in and parts of Saurashtra region.

Hundreds of trees have got uprooted due to strong winds damaging the power supply in as many as 940 villages and low-lying areas near the sea were flooded. The wind speed went as high as 140 kmph. 

As per an ANI, Alok Singh, Relief Commissioner of Gujarat said, "Around 22 people have been injured due to the storm. So far, there is no news of anyone's death. 23 animals have been killed, 524 trees have fallen, and electric poles have also fallen in some places due to which there is no electricity in 940 villages."

Mandvi town in Gujarat’s Kutch, Maliya in Morbi witnessed a complete blackout as trees and poles got damaged. Winds broke electric wires hitting the power supply in many regions.
