Happy New Year 2024: The Delhi Police is set to deploy over 10,000 personnel on the ground to curb hooliganism and address traffic violations.

Happy New Year 2024: As the national capital awaits the arrival of the New Year, the Delhi Police and Traffic Department are leaving no stone unturned to ensure a safe and orderly celebration. According to officials cited by news agency PTI, robust measures have been put in place to maintain law and order. The Delhi Police is set to deploy over 10,000 personnel on the ground to curb hooliganism and address traffic violations, PTI reported the officials as informing.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Joy Tirkey emphasised, "We want everyone to welcome the New Year with great zeal. But if someone is found causing nuisance on roads, they will face action", as quoted by PTI.

To ensure smooth traffic movement, more than 2,500 personnel from the Traffic Police have been deployed. Strict measures are in place to deter drunk driving, stunts by motorcycle riders, and loud exhaust sounds. "Around 450 motorcycles will be positioned at different places, and movement towards Connaught Place will be regulated after 8 pm on Sunday," Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) SS Yadav noted, as per PTI.

Highlighting the commitment to safety, a senior police official told PTI, "No one will be allowed to flout the rules," with 250 teams of the Delhi Traffic Police dedicated to curbing drunk driving.

In a move to alleviate overcrowding, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced restrictions at Rajiv Chowk metro station after 9 pm on New Year's Eve. While entry will be permitted, exit from the station will not be allowed, as stated by DMRC Principal Executive Director Anuj Dayal.

The Delhi Fire Department is gearing up to handle any emergency. Chief of Delhi Fire Service Atul Garg said, "Our priority is to maintain a joyful atmosphere while prioritizing the safety of all people." Strategic measures have been implemented at popular locations such as Ansal Plaza, Connaught Place, and Hauz Khas village market to handle any potential emergencies, PTI reported.

As part of the security measures, multiple layers of barricades have been erected in Delhi's border areas near Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, as the authorities aim to ensure a safe and enjoyable New Year's Eve.

The police conducted a flag march in Connaught Place.

Visuals of Heavy Traffic in Delhi-NCR also surfaced on New Year’s Eve.
