Delhi-NCR Finally Gets Break From Punishing Heat With Rain, Thunderstorm

Delhi-NCR is likely to receive light rains or thundershowers, accompanied by gusty winds, on June 18 and 19 as well.

Rain with thunderstorms lashed parts of Delhi-NCR on Friday, bringing relief from days of punishing heat. This comes after the weather office forecast that the national capital was likely to witness light rains today. The minimum temperature in the city was recorded at 27.9 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said, adding that the maximum temperature is likely to hover around 38 degrees Celsius. Delhi would witness a generally cloudy sky with light rain or drizzle during the day, the IMD said.

News agency ANI shared visual of rain amid traffic movement on Delhi's Feroz Shah Road and RK Puram.

The national capital recorded 50 per cent relative humidity at 8:30 am.

Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded in the moderate (128) category at 9 am, according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR).

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered good, 51 and 100 satisfactory, 101 and 200 moderate, 201 and 300 poor, 301 and 400 very poor, and 401 and 500 severe.

Private forecasting agency Skymet Weather had said earlier this week that the national capital is expected to receive light rains under the influence of Cyclone Biparjoy.

The city is likely to receive light rains or thundershowers, accompanied by gusty winds, on June 18 and 19 as well.

Previously, parts of Delhi, including Dwarka, received rainfall on Wednesday, despite there being no forecast for rain. The maximum temperature is expected to be between 35 degrees Celsius and 39 degrees Celsius till June 20, Skymet Weather said.
