Delhi: Heavy Rains Lead To Waterlogging, Auto Driver Dies After Falling Into Ditch

IMD forecasts mild to moderate rainfall in Delhi during the next five days.

Heavy rains battered Delhi, causing waterlogging in various districts, traffic jams, and the death of an autorickshaw driver who fell into a ditch on Friday, news agency PTI reported. Rainwater also got inside the Delhi Secretariat. A video posted on Twitter by a user shows individuals wading through ankle-high water with their shoes in their hands at the Delhi Secretariat.

The Delhi Traffic Police resorted to Twitter to warn people about the flooded roads and encourage them to plan their trips accordingly.

According to the traffic police, waterlogging and a bus breakdown near Dhansa stand slowed traffic on Firni Road in Najafgarh.

The national capital had 26.9 mm of rain between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Friday, according to the Safdarjung Observatory, which offers typical statistics for the city.

Ajit Sharma, 51, of Nand Nagri in northeast Delhi's Harsh Vihar, died after falling into a ditch on a wet road, according to police.

Due to a bus breakdown at the Bharat Darshan Park traffic light, traffic was also disrupted on the road from Rajouri Garden to Punjabi Bagh, and commuters were urged to avoid this route. The bus was eventually dismantled.

Waterlogging also hampered traffic in South Extension, Sarai Kale Khan, Lajpat Nagar, ITO, Harsh Vihar, and areas of central and outer Delhi, particularly on the Mehrauli-Badarpur route and the stretch between Geeta Colony and Akshardham Temple.
