Bodies Of 2 Missing Youths Recovered From Yamuna In Greater Noida

UP Police recovered two bodies of two missing youths from the Yamuna river in Greater Noida on Monday.

Police recovered the bodies of two missing youths from the Yamuna river in Greater Noida on Monday. The deceased were identified as 21-year-old Dhiraj and 17-year-old Sanjit who were both residents of Makanpur Khadar village. They had gone missing while bathing on Sunday. A police official while talking to news agency PTI said that they went missing when they went to take a bath in Yamuna which has been flowing above the danger mark for days now. After a missing report was filed, the local police reached the spot only to find their clothes and mobile phones.

Teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local divers were roped in and a search operation was initiated in the matter. The official while talking to PTI said, "After an intensive search that began on Sunday, the dead bodies of both Dhiraj and Sanjit were found in Yamuna near village Rampur Khadar on Monday."

The bodies have been sent for autopsy and further legal proceedings are being carried out at the moment, said police. 

Greater Noida is part of Gautam Buddh Nagar district, which is located between the Yamuna and the Hindon rivers and is one of the regions in Uttar Pradesh which has been the worst-hit by the floods since the past week.

As per official figures, more than 8,700 people were affected by the floods till Sunday night and around 6,300 animals got displaced in the floodwater, reported PTI. 

The water level of the Yamuna river increased significantly after three lakh cusecs of water were released from the Hathnikund barrage. At the same time, the villages near Yamuna got submerged.
