Arvind Kejriwal's Arrest: ITO Metro Station To Remain Shut Till 6 PM, Says DMRC

The decision to shut the ITO metro station has been taken in view of the scheduled protest by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in front of the headquarters of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).

As AAP is gearing up to hold nationwide protest following CM Arvind Kejriwal's arrest, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Friday stated that the ITO metro station will remain closed till 6 pm today. Taking to X (previously known as Twitter), DMRC stated: "On advice of Delhi Police, ITO Metro station will remain closed from 08:00 AM to 06:00 PM today i.e, 22nd March 2024".

The decision to shut the ITO metro station has been taken in view of the scheduled protest by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in front of the headquarters of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). The BJP headquarters is situated on Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg, close to the ITO metro station. The protest, scheduled to begin around 10 am.

AAP has also invited the opposition bloc to participate in the protest.

While announcing the decision to hold protest, AAP leader Gopal Rai on Thursday night stated: "If the BJP thinks that they can finish the Aam Aadmi Party and threaten the entire Opposition by arresting Arvind Kejriwal, then they are wrong...A battle has begun. We have decided that we will stage a protest at the BJP headquarters at 10 am tomorrow."

Meanwhile, Delhi Police on Friday morning urged people not to sabotage the national capital's law and order situation. The police further stated that strict action will be taken against "lawbreakers".

After AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the ED in connection with the excise policy scam on Thursday, barricading and heavy security were deployed by Delhi Police at ITO.
