TMC Worker Shot Dead Outside House In Bengal's North 24 Parganas

A 35-year-old TMC worker was allegedly shot dead outside his house in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district. A probe has been launched.

A 35-year-old Trinamool Congress worker, Vicky Jadav, was allegedly shot dead outside his house in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district on Tuesday. Police officials told news agency PTI that the incident happened at around 5 pm in the Purani Tala area of Bhatpara which comes under the control of Jagaddal police station. While talking about the incident, officials said that Jadav was outside his house when he was shot following which he was rushed to the Bhatapara State General Hospital. Officials added that he was then shifted to a private hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

According to a TMC leader, three people attacked Jadav and fired nine rounds at him from a close range.

A case has been lodged and a probe has been initiated to identify the accused.

Last week, a panchayat pradhan of TMC, Rupchand Mondal, was killed by assailants in North 24 Parganas. According to police officials, Mondal was on a call when the assailants hurled bombs at him in Kamdevpur Haat. He was also first shifted to a nearby health facility after which he was shifted to a private hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

After the death of Mondal, some TMC supporters along with the locals blocked National Highway 34 and called for the arrest of the culprits. Barrackpore MP Arjun Singh also arrived at the area and called for the arrest of the assailants. Singh said that it seemed to be "a planned murder and police should find out the perpetrators."

A TMC spokesperson, Joyprakash Majumdar, alleged that the BJP and the CPI(M) were "unleashing a reign of terror" in West Bengal's rural belt ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections. He said, "They are targeting our popular leaders with the sole objective to lessen the strength of TMC ahead of the polls. The opposition gameplan will not succeed."
